Insider Tip
As with any big event in Philadelphia, if you want to park cheaply, then get there early, find a spot with a working meter and have a lot of quarters in your pocket. Public transportation, however, is probably the smartest way to go.
The Experience
Traditionally held at Penn’s Landing during Memorial Day Weekend, Captain Morgan's Jam on the River represents Philadelphia’s official summer kickoff.
The Delaware River waterfront is one of Philadelphia’s great gathering places, and Jam on the River is a great time for visitors and Philadelphians of all walks of life to come together. Over the years some of the most exciting musical acts in rock, blues, soul, jazz and progressive pop have graced the Penn’s Landing stage.
Through the years — this year’s celebration will be the 23rd — Jam on the River has evolved from a Louisiana-themed festival to a non-stop weekend of great music. Organizers never fail to book an incredibly diverse range of groups and performers, so there's literally something for everyone.
To see who's on the bill this year, visit Jam on the River.
History
Founded in 1986 as the Jambalaya Jam, the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau renamed the celebration Jam on the River in 1995 after it merged with RiverBlues, another Penn’s Landing music-and-food fest that had been held in late summer.
