Louis I. Kahn (1901-1974)
One of the leading architects of the second half of the 20th century
Kahn’s use of heavy masonry materials and natural light to form interior spaces was in dramatic contrast to the prevailing styles of modern architecture. Although relatively few of his buildings were completed, they are each considered masterpieces.
Kahn was also an influential teacher whose philosophic approach to architecture influenced a whole generation of American architects. Kahn’s drawings and models of his projects are located and on display at the
Architectural Archives of the University of Pennsylvania
.
