The gardens at Mt. Cuba, a 630-acre non-profit center in the rolling hills of northern Delaware, are a delight of color and scent. The grounds are the former estate of Mr. and Mrs. Lammot du Pont Copeland.
Birds and other wildlife are drawn to the beauty of these naturalistic gardens, which celebrate native plant species as well as an amazing collection of orchids, so birdwatchers and nature photographers won’t be disappointed.
COME PREPARED
The center is only recently open to the public and is not accessible without a reservation. You must call ahead to reserve a two hour guided walking tour — held in the spring and fall. Dogs are not allowed and sensible shoes are suggested.
DON'T MISS
The center is free and open to the public for the annual Wildflower Celebration, which is held at the peak of the season in the first week of May and includes music, food and educational programs.
